A measuring spoon is a measuring spoon, right? Except that Cuisipro has a history of trying to take “standard” items and present them in new and surprisingly more helpful lights. So let’s take a look at their claims for these spoons:
- Oval design lets you scoop ingredients easily from canisters and tall jars.
- Set of nine red spoons
- Gently curved handles allow the spoons to sit upright, so there is no tipping
- Capacities: ‘pinch,’ 1/8 tsp, 1/4tsp, 1/2 tsp, 2/3 tsp, 1tsp, 1 1/2tsp, 2 tsp, 1tbsp
- Dishwasher safe
To be clear, I have high standards for my measuring spoons. The set we primarily use is a stainless steel set, rectangular so that it will fit into spice jars, with flat bottoms to sit securely, and some odd sizes provided (a half-tablespoon measure and a 3/4 teaspoon measure, primarily). So I was skeptical that a new set would hold up to our favorites. Yet, hold up they did, and quite nicely.
Oval design & curved handles: Much like the rectangular design of our other favorites, these fit easily into spice jars. I was worried the rounded bottoms wouldn’t sit easily on a countertop, but there’s a dimple in the bottom to aid with that. Be a little careful and you shouldn’t have a problem. The arched handles do help in this.
Nine spoons with unusual capacities: This set is surprisingly complementary to our other; it hits all the sizes the other one didn’t, such as 2/3 teaspoon, 2 tsp, and “pinch”. I love it! It’s great to have one or two sets like this when you do a lot of cooking so you don’t have to keep cleaning measuring spoons between ingredients.
Dishwasher safe: On the one hand, well, so are our other sets. Pretty much the only spoons I’ve used that aren’t are those cheap plastic ones that can get tossed out of the utensil bucket and melted on the heating element. (Yes, that’s the voice of experience.) On the other hand, it’s important that cooking items wherever possible be dishwasher-safe and sturdily so, and these are that. I was worried that the plastic part of these spoons wouldn’t be that different from those old flimsy cheap spoons, but I needn’t have been concerned. This is hard, sturdy plastic that will stand up to many, many dishwasher loads.
In short, this is an incredibly handy set of measuring spoons, particularly for folks who like to cook with seasonings or do a whole lot of baking. I highly recommend it!
